Beach City Adopt-A-Crag

The Ohio Climber’s Coalition (OCC) has finalized the permit with the Ohio Division of Wildlife for the Second Annual Beach City Adopt a Crag. It will be held on April 6, 2019 from 9am - 3pm. Last years event was a big success, with several projects being tackled such as graffiti removal, stone stairs constructed at the Big Wall, and litter pick-up including old tire removal.

This year we will again tackle graffiti removal from rock surfaces using Elephant Snot. Tree graffiti is also a problem here and we will use spray paint to cover the graffiti on the trees, trying to match the color of the bark. We will also do a little work to improve the stone stairs that were built by the Big Cliffs last year, and plan on building another set on the far side of the Big Cliffs. Litter pick-up is also a major project here since a lot of the area is in a flood plain and floods several times a year, leaving litter as the water retreats. Much of the flood plain is under the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) control.

The OCC has agreed to fund $400.00 worth of gravel for the Camp Road parking area, and the Division of Wildlife has agreed to match that with an additional $400.00. Jarod Lawver, one of two OCC Beach City Crag Stewards has agreed to haul the gravel. Details for grading and spreading the gravel are in the process of being worked out. Any final handwork will be done by volunteers the day of the event.

Bill Fender, Wayne County trustee, has volunteered to help out again this year; last year he hauled the litter and old tires away.

There will again be a cookout after the event with hot dogs and hamburgers for the volunteers. All the local gyms will pitch in to pay for the food. Please feel free to bring a side dish, although this is not required.

Parking on Camp Road is limited so we ask that you park at the parking lot off Dundee Wilmont Road where we will car pool to the Camp Road parking area. We recommend printing the following map before you come if you’re not familiar with the area: http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/Portals/wildlife/Maps/Wildlife%20Area%20Maps/PDFs/beachcity.pdf
