The Ohio Climbers Coalition is excited to head back to John Bryan State Park to continue work on improving trails and access to the established climbing areas! Earlier this year we started work on removing invasive honeysuckle, improving climber trails to access the bottom of the cliffs, and start work to develop a climber trail access at the bottom of the cliffs to help connect each area at the base. This workday will be focused on continuing this work with plans for social climbing after the workday and a small cookout to celebrate what we've been able to do at John Bryan this year!
Volunteers should plan to meet at the Wingo Picnic Area parking lot at 10am to complete waivers and gather supplies for the workday before heading out to the various worksites. The OCC will have some personal protective equipment available for volunteers to use (work gloves, eye protection, and ear protection if necessary), but please wear closed toed shoes and clothes that you are comfortable working in. We will also have extra water and snacks to share during the workday, but please bring your own reusable water bottle to refill.
After the workday, climbers are encouraged to go out and enjoy some climbing at the established climbing areas. For more information about the climbing routes at John Bryan, please check out Mountain Project: https://www.mountainproject.com/.../john-bryan-state-park or the OCC website.
