West Branch Quarry - Northern Ohio

The OCC is currently seeking a Crag Steward for West Branch Quarry to join our team. Help the Ohio Climbers Coalition further climbing in these areas of the state! We are looking for a motivated and organized person to help us with the responsibilities listed below. As such, we need a climber based within this area with requisite available time to commit. A knowledge of the status of climbing in current areas is a plus.

This person will:

  • Familiarize yourself with the OCC website.

    1. Submit an email address that can be used for Climbers to contact you if they have any specific questions about your Crag.

  • Organize at least one Adopt-a-Crag for your Crag every year. Smaller workdays are encouraged to be organized as needed. Keep track of Volunteer names and hours. Report these to the Stewardship Director. Responsible to make sure waivers are signed for the events. The OCC requires a waiver and depending on the Crag, the landowner may require a waiver as well.

  • Research the Rules and Regulations specific to your crag.

  • Monitor the group page on Facebook specific to your Crag. Answer questions about your Crag as needed.

  • Research needed changes or updates to Mountain Project for your Crag. Email these to Regional Coordinator and Stewardship Director.

  • Talk with land managers about differentiating between a Hiker Fall and a Climber Fall. Research Climber Falls once a year and email findings to Regional Coordinator and Stewardship Director (if there are none, email zero falls).

  • Research and be familiar with Property Boundaries surrounding your Crag.

  • Monitor landowner for anything new about the Crag: example Village Council Meetings, review meeting minutes. Email anything climbing related to your Regional Coordinator and Stewardship Director.

If you have questions about this position or are interested in applying, please contact the OCC Board at: info@ohioclimberscoalition.org , and please include “Crag Steward” in the email subject line along with the area you are applying to be crag steward.
